World Read Aloud Day - February 16

On Thursday, February 16, Tioga students celebrated World Read Aloud Day.  On this day, readers of all ages celebrated literacy and the “pure joy and power of reading aloud.”

Tioga and BSD2 staff members volunteered to read aloud in the classrooms.  Our guest readers, including our Tioga principals, shared their love of literacy by reading their favorite books!  Dr. Robinson read to several classes including Ms. Monley’s 5th Grade class where she read the book Wilma Unlimited by Kathleen Krull.  The book was about Wilma Rudolph.  Before she was five years old, polio had paralyzed her left leg. Everyone said she would never walk again. But Wilma refused to believe it. Not only would she walk again, she vowed, she'd run. And she did run--all the way to the Olympics, where she became the first American woman to earn three gold medals in a single olympiad.

One of Mr. Azcoitia’s favorite books was Dubi Dubi Muu by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin which he read to Mrs. Hobbs’ Bilingual Kindergarten class.  In this book, Duck and his friends were at it again. But this time they're pooling their considerable resources to win a local talent show, because the first prize was a trampoline.  The cows and sheep wanted to sing.  And, the pigs wanted to dance.  And Duck just wanted to win the trampoline, but he would have to handle Farmer Brown first!

All of our Tioga students interactively joined in the fun and learned some amazing facts along the way!

Candace Fleming Author Visit - January 26

Tioga students and staff had a great day with author Candace Fleming yesterday. This year, we were able to surprise ALL of our K - 5 students with an autographed copy of one of Ms. Fleming's books. We are thrilled to be able to provide our students with this experience and with a special book present. Thank you to our Love of Literacy Committee for organizing the event and to Tioga's Helping Heroes and the Tioga School PTA for helping raise funds to purchase books for every student. What an amazing day!

Tioga School welcomed the Frida Kahlo Community Organization - October 4
Tioga School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by welcoming the Frida Kahlo Community Organization and their folkloric dancers!  The students learned the rich history behind popular Mexican folkloric dances from the dancers themselves!  They also had the opportunity to learn and perform a folkloric dance
Families were invited to join in after school for the folkloric dance workshop and to learn more about the dances, the culture, and to have fun! A great time was had by all who attended.  A huge thank you to the Frida Kahlo Community Organization.

During this construction period, we ask that all of our Tioga families exercise extreme care when driving in the Tioga School area. Extra precautions will be necessary as heavy machinery and trucks will be coming and going during the project.  Complete street closures are not anticipated at any time during the project; however, delays may occur from time to time.  Additionally, the sidewalks on the west side of the building and on the east side of Mason Street are closed.  Please use an alternate route.

Thank you for your cooperation.  Further updates will be posted on our website as they become available.
