How to Help Your Child With Homework Anxiety
- Talk with your child about his or her fears. Find out what is troubling him or her, and reassure him or her that you support them and that together you will find a solution to their problems. Do not make fun of your child’s fears, as they are very real to him or her.
- Communicate frequently with your child’s teacher. Keep up to date with what work is required, and with what is happening in the classroom. Ask the teacher what rules and guidelines to follow regarding homework, such as how closely to monitor your child’s work. Also, find out what and how the work is taught in the classroom.
- Check your child’s homework when it is finished, and review any teacher comments on returned assignments with your child.
- Make reading and learning an important family activity that is fun and exciting.
