Church Road Reconstruction:
Alternate Walking Routes and
(Updated August 22, 2017)
VIDEO: Dr. Perry Finch, Blackhawk Middle School Co-Principal, explains routes students should us to walk to school, and alternate locations where parents can drop off and pick up their children.
Please anticipate traffic delays and detours due to the ongoing reconstruction of Church Road in front of Blackhawk Middle School and the Bensenville School District 2 Educational Administration Center (EAC).
Since the project began in May, traffic on Church Road between Grove Avenue and Jefferson Street has been reduced to a single southbound lane. In early August, southbound traffic shifted from the east side of Church to the new pavement on the west side of the road. It will remain in this configuration for the remainder of the project, which is slated for completion in mid November 2017.
This means access to different driveways and parking lots at Blackhawk and the EAC should mostly be maintained throughout the rest of the project. From time to time, though, these driveways and other small portions of this stretch of Church Road may still be temporarily closed to accommodate work on the east side of Church Road.
However, the Village’s staging of this project will always allow access to Blackhawk and the EAC.
Drivers should still anticipate delays when travelling to and from these locations. They should also enter and exit these sites very slowly, as the new pavement is not yet level with the new concrete aprons installed in the driveways. When the entire project is complete, a final layer of pavement will eliminate this 2-inch lip.
Blackhawk parents will still be able enter at the south driveway to drop-off and pick-up students. Those looking to avoid Church Road should consider dropping off and picking up their children at the following nearby locations that are within walking distance of the school (click here for enlarged map):
- W.A. Johnson School at 252 Ridgewood Avenue.
- The intersection of Wood and Ellis Streets.
- The intersection of Memorial Road and Miner Street.
Throughout this project, District 2 has worked closely with the Village of Bensenville to provide the BSD2 community with construction updates as necessary. That information will continue to be posted to the District’s website, www.bsd2.org, and shared via the District’s School Messenger phone and text message system, its 2Talk District News and Alerts subscription email service, and its Facebook and Twitter accounts.
When finished, this Village-funded project will provide many infrastructure improvements, including an off-street, 8-foot-wide, shared-use path in front of Blackhawk Middle School that will accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists.
