Mrs. Mary Peterson
My name is Mrs. Mary Peterson, and I am the Team 7-1 Math teacher. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Elmhurst College, and a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership from Roosevelt University. I joined the staff of Blackhawk Middle School in 1990, with most of my years here teaching 7th Grade, (which I thoroughly enjoy!) I am looking forward to a great year of learning and teaching.
Mr. Georgopoulos
My name is Nick Georgopoulos and I am one of the Reading and Language Arts teachers for Team 7-1. I have my degree from Northeastern Illinois University. I am excited to be back in the classroom this year, not only as a teacher but also as a student. I am pursuing a Master’s Degree in Reading at NEIU. In my spare time I love to read. This is something I would like to pass on to the students of Blackhawk. My educational philosophy is that school should be a place where children feel secure and also find the motivation to learn. Reading is a major aspect of this. I would like students to become lifelong readers by helping them discover all the knowledge and pleasure they could find in a good book, magazine or newspaper. I look forward to a wonderful school year with this year’s seventh grade.
Mrs. Pigoni
Hello, I am Mrs. Pigoni and I am the science teacher for team 7-1. I have been at Blackhawk for the past 16 years and previously worked at the DAVEA (Technology Center) Center in Addison for 10 years. I have a bachelors degree in Education and a Masters in Science Education, both from National Louis University. I have one child, Gianna, who is a teacher as well. In my spare time, I love watching HGTV and practicing my decorating skills. I am thrilled to have your child in class and look forward to an exciting school year!
Ms. Kiely
My name is Doris Kiely and I am the Special Education teacher on this team. I grew up in a nearby suburb and returned to the area after college and my first teaching job in Central Illinois. As I begin my 28th year here at Blackhawk, I look forward to the new people, experiences, and challenges that this year will bring. I am very excited to be co-teaching with our team in the areas of Social Studies, Science, and Math. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I enjoy working on our flower garden, going to craft shows, attending plays, and following many of the local sports teams.
Mr. Long
My name is Adam Long and I am the social studies teacher for Team 7-1. In the Fall of 2008, I had the pleasure of student teaching 8th grade science right here at Blackhawk. Following this experience, I graduated from Elmhurst College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. I returned to the building as a long-term substitute and was hired shortly after for the 2009-10 school year. I am thrilled to be entering my 2nd year of teaching at this wonderful place, and look forward to a great school year with your child!
Ms. Brown
My name is Katie Brown and I am the new Language Arts/Reading teacher to Team 7-1. I am very excited to be a part of your child’s learning experience here at Blackhawk Middle School! I student taught at W.A Johnson in 2007. After attending Elmhurst College, I worked in a Modified Instructional Programming classroom at Hadley Jr. High in Glen Ellyn. I then moved on to Aurora District 129, where I was a Reading Intervention Teacher. It is so exciting to be back in the classroom. As expressed with all of my students, this school year is going to be most rewarding. I look forward to spending this year with your student on his/her reading journey to becoming a Life Long Learner.
