Bilingual Education and Limited English Proficiency Programs
District 2 offers Transitional Bilingual Education whenever there
are 20 or more Limited English Proficient (LEP) students with a common
native language enrolled in one school. Bilingual programs must be
taught by a certificated teacher who is fluent in the native languages
spoken by the students.
Transitional Program of Instruction
Transitional Program of Instruction may be provided in addition to a
bilingual program whenever there are fewer than 20 LEP students of a
common native language at any school. Transitional Program services
involve instruction in English as a Second Language, the use of
instructional aides in the classroom, and other native language resource
persons.
Function
District 2 students identified as LEP receive assistance in the
mainstream classroom, participate in a self-contained bilingual class,
or receive assistance through small group sessions.
