CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Two confirmed cases among staff
Two staff members were diagnosed with COVID this week. One works at W.A. Johnson School and one at Tioga School. Both will remain away from the District until meeting requirements set by the state and county health departments. There was one close contact at Johnson.

COVID-19 VACCINE: As inoculations continue, here are key points to consider
More than 70 percent of BSD2 staff have received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine. But, with that said, we must still be vigilant with our safety practices.

REMINDER: Second trimester report cards available online on Tuesday, February 23
Thursday, February 18, was the end of the second trimester. Second trimester report cards will be available for viewing for all grades on Teacherease.com on Tuesday February 23, by 3 p.m. They will also be mailed home on this day.

BILINGUAL & BILITERATE: Parents interested in new BSD2 Dual Language Program should attend March 4 online information meeting
The informative online presentation and Q&A session with Dr. Sonia Soltero will be offered in both English and Spanish. Dr. Soltero is a DePaul University professor who has more than 30 years of experience in the field of bilingual and dual language education, and she has consulted District 2 in the design and implementation of this program.

BILINGUAL & BILITERATE: New program provides students instruction in both English and Spanish
Last year, District 2 announced the creation of a new two-way dual language program. However, it postponed the program's implementation this year due to COVID. Now, it tentatively plans to launch the program next year at kindergarten, and expand it each year through fifth grade.

GET REGISTERED: Kindergarten registration begins March 15
Registration for incoming kindergarten students who are not currently enrolled in the BSD2 pre-kindergarten or Metropolitan Family Services Head Start programs will be held Monday, March 15, from 3-7 p.m. at either Tioga or W.A. Johnson Schools.

FOOD SERVICE UPDATE: District 2 distributing a full week of free meals every Monday
The District has shifted to a weekly distribution of SEVEN days of FREE breakfasts and lunches to individuals 18 years old or younger every Monday. Distribution will occur from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at all three schools and the five neighborhood bus stops listed below, and from 3-5 p.m. at Blackhawk Middle School.

Bensenville School District 2 has begun administering the Illinois 5Essentials Survey to teachers, students, and parents. This survey provides students, teachers, and parents a voice in our ongoing efforts to improve our schools. But it is also an opportunity to tell us what you love about your child’s school!

REOPENING UPDATE: Return to hybrid, in-person instruction tentatively slated for February 9
The BSD2 Board of Education approved a February 9 return to hybrid, in-person instruction during its January 20 meeting. The decision follows our region’s January 18 return to Tier 2 mitigations due to positive local COVID infection trends.

TRULY HONORED: BSD2 Board, Superintendent agree on three-year contract extension
The new contract will extend Dr. Stelter's service to the BSD2 community through mid-2024. Key goals in the contract include student achievement, growth and continuous learning, student life and safety, and managing resources efficiently and effectively.

READY TO R.E.A.D.: New partnership provides an in-person child care and remote learning support program for school-age children
In response to local community needs, Bensenville School District 2, Tri- Town YMCA, and St. Alexis Parish have partnered to offer flexible options for families through their new Remote Enrichment At District 2 (READ) program for children enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade.
