IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION: You must create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account to complete your child's 2023-2024 registration
Online registration for students returning for the 2023-2024 school year will begin Wednesday, April 5, and conclude Friday, April 21. Online registration will be conducted through the District's new PowerSchool student information system, and will require parents to create PowerSchool Parent Portal accounts.

5ESSENTIALS: Annual survey allows students, parents and teachers to weigh in on school climate and learning conditions
The 5Essentials survey window is open, and responses from students, teachers, and parents will be collected through Friday, March 31. Students in Grades 4-8 will take the survey during class, while parents and teachers are invited to click the link below to complete the survey.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Parents will receive printed copies of second-trimester report cards on March 14
Thursday, March 2, is the end of the second trimester. On Tuesday, March 14,second-trimester report cards will be sent home with elementary students, and mailed to middle school students' homes.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION: District 2 teacher honored in the 2023 ISBE Those Who Excel awards program
Carla Vazquez, a dual language first-grade teacher at W.A. Johnson School, received “Special Recognition” in the Illinois State Board of Education’s “Those Who Excel”” awards program on February 3.

POWERSCHOOL: Families can now create accounts for the PowerSchool Parent Portal
This PowerSchool Parent Portal provides parents access to their students’ schedules, attendance, assignments, and grades. Parents will also use it later this spring to register returning students for the 2023-2024 school year.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: BSD2 Board approves official 2023-2024 school calendar
Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 16, and the last day of school will be Thursday, May 30, unless emergency days are needed. Other key dates are as follows ...

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: eLearning Days have replaced emergency ‘snow days’
District 2 now calls eLearning Days when closing schools due to extreme weather. An eLearning Day counts as a regular school day, and does not require the District to use a built-in emergency day at the end of the school year.

MAKING THE GRADE: The 2022 Illinois Report Cards are available online for BSD2 schools
This year, all three BSD2 schools maintained "Commendable" status based largely upon students' scores on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) completed in the spring of 2022.

FAMILY DIRECTORY: DirectorySpot app will help families connect with each other
District 2, in partnership with its schools’ PTAs, has updated its DirectorySpot online family directory for the 2022-2023 school year.

MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS: New policy addresses student absences related to mental and behavioral health
Parents/guardians may keep a student from school for up to five mental health absences with no need to provide a medical note.

DOLLARS & SENSE: District 2 Board of Education approves 2022-2023 budget
The budget authorizes about $42.9 million of spending, paid for with about $44.2 million in revenue. The projected surplus is about $1.3 million.
