Blackhawk Clubs & Activities

One of our goals at Blackhawk Middle School is to encourage all students to become involved in at least one extracurricular activity.  

Permission Slips

All students must have a permission slip on file for both before and after-school clubs. Students may walk home, be picked up, or take a late bus after clubs and activities. Buses are available for students whose clubs end at 4 p.m and 4:30 p.m. Students taking one of our late buses are expected to be home within 30 minutes of departure. It is important for your child to know their address to ensure drop off at the correct stop.

Art Club

  • Description: Art Club is an opportunity for students to create artwork of their choice in a casual open setting. There are also weekly optional group activities, events, and time to make new friends.

Book Club

  • Description: Project Lit Book club will read and discuss a variety of genres throughout the year. We will create shelf talkers and promote positive reading experiences in our school.

Choir

  • Description: Choir is an opportunity for students to sing in a group who love singing and creating music together.

Show Choir

  • Description: Show Choir is an opportunity for students to put the skills of singing and dancing together.

Game Club

  • Description: Game Club is your place for Video games, Board games, and Card games! We will be focusing mainly on video gaming but depending on student interest we can branch out to board and card games as well!

Gardening Club

  • Description: The Garden Club will be working on several gardening projects throughout the school year. Our first project will be growing geraniums which the students can give to their parents at Winter Break. Over the winter, we will be trying to grow herbs. In the spring, we will grow vegetables and flowers for the students to have for the summer.

Hawks Club

  • Description: HAWKS serve as a role model and mentor for sixth graders and our Blackhawk community. They assist with sixth-grade advisories, as well as other school and community events.

Intramurals

  • Description: Opportunity for students to play a variety of sports in the morning - basketball, volleyball, badminton, floor hockey, and soccer. Student interest will be taken into account for which sports are featured the most.

Jazz Band

  • Description: Jazz Band expands on the skills learned in fifth-, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade band and allows students to explore improvising and performing in various styles and genres.

Math Club

  • Description: Math Club will be working on 3 areas this school year: Math Contests, Thinking Problems and future skills. For contests, we will be preparing for the ICTM contest and the Math Olympiad. The Thinking Problems are multi step problems which the students will work in groups to solve. The future math skills will focus on skills the students will use in future math classes. The students will be working on a variety of problems each week to help them develop math skills and problem solving skills.

Scholastic Bowl

  • Description: Blackhawk’s Scholastic Bowl team is a part of an official academic competition in Illinois. We compete against other middle schools in a tournament each March hosted by the Leyden-Norwood Conference at the Rosemont Convention Center. The team also visits Fenton High School annually to meet the coaches and high school academic team members. A typical match involves two teams of five players each answering questions read by a moderator. The question topics are drawn from all curriculum areas and outside of it, including science, math, social science, language arts, fine arts/performing arts, vocational education, and general information.

PALS Club

  • Description: An inclusive space for students to create, socialize, learn crafting, games, music, sports and more. Great way to make friends.

Soccer Club

  • Description: In soccer club, students will improve their ball and tactical skills through drills and scrimmages. In addition, students will learn about injury prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and balance with sports.

Student Council

  • Description: Student council is a service group partnering with DuCAP to serve our school and community. Students are involved in selecting charities, creating charitable events and volunteering in the school and community.

  • Description: We Belong Club is a place where we celebrate diversity and build community. We will spread awareness, acceptance, and kindness in our school and community.

Weight Training Club

  • Description: In Fitness Club, students learn proper weightlifting techniques, form, and movements. We use the progressive overload training method to build strength.
