    Passion

After a decade of being a school administrator and a parent myself, I realize more than ever that communication is one of the most important aspects of a successful school--yet sometimes most overlooked or poorly practiced. I'm interested in exploring new and more efficient ways of increasing school to home and home to school communication. As our school begins to rebrand homework as homelearning through the integration of flipped learning opportunities, I feel more than ever a need to improve our methods of communication. It can be tough to make this occur at the middle school level but arguably is the most critical time in a child's development.

    Passion

Academic achievement is enhanced when students feel safe and welcome in the school environment.  Social and emotional learning (SEL) provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers, and life.  Effective social and emotional learning programming involves practices that help students develop the following five key skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.  As a school and district, we are committed to enhancing and furthering our framework for how educators, families and community partners promote and support social, emotional, and academic learning.

    Passion

Working the better part of my career in a middle school setting, it has become clear how advantageous a time in students’ lives this can be in helping develop their attitudes and beliefs as learners. Middle school provides students opportunities to explore and engage in ways that are best suited to their learning, direct and monitor their own growth and development and master key components of the core content as well as 21st century learning skills. Students at this level work collaboratively with others through inquiry and the problem solving process. With the support of various stakeholders, we can help ensure that students’ gain the knowledge they need to enhance their learning potential and rise above their own expectations as part of the school and greater community.
