FULL SERVICE: BMS mural project pairs artist-in-residence with sixth-grade students
In partnership with Urban Gateways, District 2 invites Blackhawk Middle School sixth graders to participate in a collaborative mural project with Chicago artist Jeff Abbey Maldonado.
Students will have the opportunity to create a positive statement of empowerment through a youth-produced, outdoor mural that redefines their learning space. The design of the project will be student-led and focused on community and culture. The finished mural will be located on the eastside of Blackhawk Middle School, near Church Road.
Students have already begun working on this project during the school day, but there are more ways to participate:
Interested students can attend after-school sessions led by the artist on Wednesdays from 3-4 p.m.
Sessions begin September 11 and run through December 11.
Please return the Blackhawk after-school participation form to the front office staff.
